Northeast Recycling and Transfer Station (NERTS)
King County's Solid Waste Division plans to site, design, and build a modern transfer station in northeast King County, scheduled to open in 2029. The new station will replace the aging Houghton Transfer Station in Kirkland. The County has identified two possible locations for NERTS. The first location is an upgrade to the existing Houghton/Kirkland Transfer Station, on land already owned by King County. The second location is in the Sammamish Valley, in the 15000 block of Woodinville-Redmond Rd. NE, Woodinville. An Environmental Review for proposed NERTS sites is underway. Details on the KC project are here.
